It’s a criminal offence in the UK for someone to tell another person that they should kill themselves. The perpetrator can be jailed for up to three years for this or, if the victim does in fact try to kill themselves, for up to 14 years. Before July 2015, telling someone to commit suicide was a criminal offence only if the targeted person did in fact try to commit suicide.
